By the 1990s he was forming bluegrass bands in the Upper Valley, including The Fogey Mountain Boys, and later played guitar and dobro with Reckless Breakfast, Americana’s Most Wanted, and others. These days he performs old‑time and standards in nursing homes—coming full circle—and teaches pop music courses at Osher at Dartmouth.

When Joseph and three friends performed “She Loves You” by the Beatles—in Latin (“Amate, Yeah, Yeah, yeah!”)—for their high school foreign language final, the performing bug bit hard. It led to solo gigs on Cape Cod and the formation of his first jug band. In the 1980s, while running a music club in the Upper Valley, he and a group of friends created the Spare Parts band. These days he plays with The Occasional Jug Band and the Classical Folk Trio.

Jeff later moved to Berlin, recording and touring with Saraba, a West African group, as well as with salsa bands, a soul diva, and country and singer‑songwriters. From 1980 to 2000, music was his full‑time life—until he  became a Foreign Service Officer, serving in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East before retiring to Unity, NH.
